I saw the OVA series Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still recently and wasn’t disappointed. It’s an anime from the ’90s with a retro look due to the manga it’s derived from. I’m not a big fan of mecha anime, but I loved this because it was more than just about big robots fighting. It had great characters & relationships between them as well as a nice sci-fi angle involving the search for energy sources by a desperate Earth that led to tragedy and a cover-up. And, of course, I’m posting a clip – the tragedy of Bashtarle from which there were supposedly no survivors:
