Like Noein and Denno Coil. And Le Chevalier D’eon. Can I tempt anyone into watching a supernatural mystery/thriller set in pre-revolutionary France where folks wield Psalms like spells? Can I lure anyone with the info that one of the protagonists is a woman’s spirit channeled through her brother’s body? Can I sway you with the crossdressing? The bishounen? The bishoujo? The witty turns of phrase? This anime is perfect for a fandom, guys. It’s getting depressing that there isn’t one.

It’s an anime from the ’90s with a retro look due to the manga it’s derived from. I’m not a big fan of mecha anime, but I loved this because it was more than just about big robots fighting. It had great characters & relationships between them as well as a nice sci-fi angle involving the search for energy sources by a desperate Earth that led to tragedy and a cover-up. And, of course, I’m posting a clip – the tragedy of Bashtarle from which there were supposedly no survivors:

The premise is that Jesus & Buddha are taking a well-earned vacation on earth and share an apartment together in Japan. It sounds like it shouldn’t work, but I found it to be an adorable slice of life manga:

It lets you crosspost from a WordPress blog to LJ based sites, Dreamwidth included, so that’s a definite plus. I don’t want my old blog to be stagnant, so I’ll do at least a little crossposting.

And on to what I was going to briefly mention. I finished watching the anime Gunslinger Girl recently, and I have to say it was rather good. It’s action-oriented, but surprisingly poignant and haunting. I’m definitely going to have to give the manga a try. The sequel to this anime supposedly doesn’t live up to the quality of the first, so I’ll give it a pass for now.

There are so many reasons why an anime like this is a Very Bad Idea. I give myself a 60/40 chance of success for avoiding it, though. I have an obsession with all things WWII, and history in general, and something that makes such a war look cute is mind-boggling, horrifying, and intriguing all at the same time. And how can one resist a fandom where there is Germany/Poland non-con fic among other things? Oh, intarwebs!
